Bendigo Animal Welfare & Community Services was delighted to receive funding from the Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise Small Grants Program to support landscaping works on their site at 488 Millwood Road Huntly North.

Working in partnership with the CVGT National Green Jobs Corps Program, BAWCS will plant an attractive screening of native shrubs along their northern boundary to enhance the character of the endemic native vegetation identified as being part of the original Berkeley Brush currently on the site.

The landscaping works will also reduce the visual impact of the building development both from within the site and externally and has been approved as part of the Landscaping Plan by the City of Greater Bendigo Planning Department.

The project will provide environmental improvements in the form of many new native trees planted which will complement the existing vegetation and overall site. On completion of the project, young unemployed people, working with the National Green Jobs Corps, will have built their skills and gained environmental work skills experience allowing for greater employment opportunities.

Neighbourhood Watch

A new online news site will keep communities informed of crime in their local neighbourhood and policing issues impacting their lives, Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Simon Overland recently announced. He said he hoped the regular release of crime statistics will make communities aware of what is happening in their local area so they can take preventative measures. In addition to the crime statistics, Victoria Police News includes official traffic updates, witness appeals, CCTV footage of incidents in which police are seeking public assistance and other police news of interest to the community. People can log on at www.vicpolicenews.com.au/myplace to access the latest crime statistics.

Victoria Police, in collaboration with Crime Prevention Victoria, operate the PARTYSAFE program. The PARTYSAFE initiative is a key crime prevention tool in your local area.

PARTYSAFE provides information to help minimize the risk of having intoxicated guests or gatecrashers ruining your party. Registering your party with the police will provide the police with the information they need to know if they are called to your party to deal with a disturbance.

PARTYSAFE registration forms are available from local police stations or via download at

http:www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document ID=9566
