Committee Members

Sandy Young – Chair
I have lived in the Huntly district for 21 years with my husband Peter and 3 boys. The boys have all played football and cricket with the local junior sides and cricket in Huntly too. Consequently I have had much involvement with the local kinder and our local sporting clubs and their committees: Huntly Junior Football Club and Huntly/North Bendigo Cricket Club. I am very excited about the Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise and believe it will enable our community to come together and achieve improved facilities.


Mike Smith – Treasurer
I have lived in Huntly since 1983, together with Vicki, my wife we built our own home here and have two wonderful children. I/we have been involved in many facets of community life in Huntly, and enjoy the many benefits of our rural environment. I have been part of BNDCE (Happening Huntly)since before its inception and remain extremely excited about the potential of our community to develop opportunities for the future of our district.


Mike Lowther – Secretary
I am a retired schoolteacher, married (to Eileen), with three adult children. We have lived in Huntly for about 15 years. My interests include the Bendigo Tramways, football and community radio. I have been associated with BNDCE / Happening Huntly since its very early inception and look forward to seeing it grow and provide the opportunity for many good things to happen in our district.


Christine Abrahall
I am the manager of the White Hills Bendigo Bank Branch. I have been with the bank for the past 9 years and have been living in Bendigo for the past 2 years. I applaud the people involved in this enterprise for their commitment to helping their community and will strive to assist them achieve their goals. I have the pleasure of ensuring the pledges from our customers who wish to support the enterprise are actioned and am here to assist them with any queries they have.


Neil Pitson
I was born in Drummartin and moved to Bagshot in my early teens. After I married I moved to Huntly with my wife, and I have lived and farmed there for the last 49 years. We have 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I played football for Huntly, coached Bagshot junior cricket teams and was an active fireman with the Goornong Fire Brigade before transferring to Huntly Brigade. I am a life member of the Huntly Fire Brigade, President of the Huntly Epsom Lions Club and also President of the Huntly Historical Society.

I spent 11 years as a Councillor with the former Huntly Shire Council, serving 2 terms as Shire President. Over the years, I have served on numerous committees and have been very active in community work and extremely passionate about seeing the continued growth of the Huntly area.


Cheryl Johnstone
I have lived in Huntly since 1995 with my husband Mal and two children, after moving from White Hills. I am a life member at White Hills Football/Netball Club and play tennis with the Huntly Tennis Club. I have been on numerous committees and am an active member in the community. I am the Senior Manager of Business Continuity Management at Bendigo & Adelaide Bank. I have been involved with the BNDCE prior to its inception and believe that by working together we will make a difference to enhance and improve our district.
